One of the most highly anticipated events in the local Internet community, the Philippine Web Awards is now on its 11th year of recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations in the field of Web design and development. As the PWA celebrates this milestone, lets take a look at some of the highlights in PWA history.

2006

For the 9th year, the Philippine Web Awards gathered the country’s top Web designers and figures to honor the best among its ranks. This year’s edition saw the initial recognition of blogs and local government Web sites. Television personality JM Rodriguez and Magic 89.9 radio jock Sheryll Crystal served as the event's hosts.

2005

It’s fiesta time for the PWA as it celebrated year 8 with changes - and the bestowing of the Hall Of Fame awards to ClickTheCity, PhilMusic and UP Mountaineering Web sites; this award lauds five-time (at least) Best Web Site winners.

2004

Major revamps like the implementation of an entry fee and the narrowing down of the categories list occurred. Nevertheless, the PWA sizzled in ‘Urban Jungle’ mode.

2003

Inspired by The Matrix installments released that year, the 6th PWA ventured into cyberpunk territory, transforming its Greenbelt Onstage venue into the technologically supreme world of this futuristic genre.

2002

Using digital tech, the 5th PWA brought to life kapres,mananangals and other Philippine folklore creations – as envisioned by illustrator Arnold Arre – and integrated them into the event. The SMS-voting scheme for the People’s Choice Awards made its debut.

2001

Implementing an anime theme, the 4th PWA provided venue for the Philippine Web industry figureheads and aficionados garbed in their favorite Japanese animation character. The event also handed out several special awards.

The new year of the new millennium saw the PWA riding along the height of the dot.com fever, highlighting new sites for e-commerce, Internet IPOs, etc..

Renamed Philippine Web Awards (PWA), the second episode saw 1,100 Web sites contending for the top spot.

1998

Initiated by the editorial team of the Web Philippines (now Enterprise magazine), the Philippine Webby Awards, which was patterned after the International Webbies, was held at the Hard Rock Café.
